June 28, 2007 Woodruff Park Reading Room Hosts Book Signing
Travis Holland is an award-winning short fiction writer whose stories are featured in many prominent national publications. The debut of his novel on Tuesday, June 19 has brought about critical acclaim and sparked excitement in the literary community. Holland holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Michigan where he received the prestigious Hopwood Award for his compelling novel. Inspiration for his novel, The Archivist’s Story, comes from Holland’s research on an obscure history of Russian writers persecuted under Stalin. In the novel, Pavel Dubrov is an archivist in Moscow’s Lubyanka prison during Stalinist Russia. He is given the task of cataloging and destroying works of writers in the prison. Dubrov finds himself unable to destroy one prisoner’s work and makes the reckless decision to save the final stories of the author whose work he admires.Holland’s novel is truly a tribute to the written word. This unique opportunity to meet this award-winning author promises to be a treat for everyone in attendance, from the literary scholar to the casual bookworm. Woodruff Park Reading Room
